ESG Today reports that copper is one of the most important materials that we need in our quest to become a low-emission global economy, as it is used in the production of renewables, the automotive industry and not only.

Chile-based Ceibo developed a more sustainable copper-extraction process that can increase the productivity in the industry, while also cutting on the use of water resources. Ceibo's copper-extracting process can easily be installed in existing mines, reducing the cost and complexity of the solution.

Cristóbal Undurraga, Ceibo CEO and Co-founder, said that "this capital increase, together with the strategic support of investors like BHP Ventures, will help us accelerate plans to deploy our technology globally and meet society’s needs."

Ceibo is not the only mining company developing sustainable technologies for the industry. Komatsu is one of the more well-known players in this sector who pushes hard on electric-powered mining vehicles and even helps lower the carbon footprint of long-haul heavy trucks.

KGHM is another mining company from Poland which aims to reduce its environmental impact. One of the ways it wants to achieve that is by signing deals to procure clean energy for mining from nuclear plants, alongside building partnerships with different organizations to secure access to sustainably-extracted raw materials.
