The project is initiated by eMAG, together with the Carpathia Conservation Foundation and GreenTech, and aims to encourage and support Romanian companies to take on measurable goals and take concrete measures to protect the environment and prevent climate change. At the same time, the Commitment for the Environment aims to contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of Romanian companies.

The economy will change as a result of the European Union's goal of reducing its net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990, and achieving climate neutrality by 2050, through which economic growth will be decoupled from rising emissions. The commitment helps companies to transform earlier, to be more resilient, without loss.

The Commitment can be accessed by companies that undertake five steps: to calculate their carbon footprint, to reduce their carbon footprint, to voluntarily offset emissions that could not be avoided if they want to reach zero net faster, to publish a non-financial report and join a global initiative.

The signatories can benefit from the know-how and tools available through the Environmental Commitment platform www.angajamentpentrumediu.ro, which can help them calculate their carbon footprint and define a plan of concrete measures to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

"No organization can sustain the change we all need on our own, so we want to work with companies in all economic sectors to contribute to a sustainable future. The Commitment for the Environment is the first step that brings together the Romanian business environment in assuming a sustainable future, in agreement with the European direction, and represents an opportunity for all responsible companies in Romania, which will be able to act concretely to reduce their carbon footprint. The companies that join the initiative will benefit from the knowledge necessary for this gradual transformation, which does not generate additional costs. This transformation is like digitalization was 10-15 years ago: the earlier you start, the greater your advantage, ”said Iulian Stanciu, eMAG Executive President.

Any company can join the Commitment, regardless of the field of activity and regardless of whether it starts from a high level of emissions, as a company is good as it improves. Thus, the Commitment is for everyone.

By accessing the content on the platform, the transformation should not be costly, but even cost optimizations can be made, such as those resulting from the use of green energy.

Companies can use the engagement to position themselves in front of their customers, given that sustainability is an increasingly important criteria in choosing goods, services, or business partners.

In its mission to contribute to the conservation and restoration of the natural ecosystems of the Carpathian Mountains, for the benefit of biodiversity and local communities, the Carpathia Conservation Foundation joins this approach with the conviction that, in order to have sustainable results, the involvement of as many non-profit organizations and the business community.

"Every step we take, both individually and as organizations, leaves a mark on the environment, which is increasingly visible in the climate change we are experiencing. Beyond the awareness of this issue, we believe that we need concrete steps to take to slow down and change the way we do things. The commitment to the environment is part of the solutions that companies have access to to address climate issues. Companies that want to follow this path have the opportunity to learn from others or help others move towards reducing the carbon footprint of their business. What we do at Carpathia for Nature is also supported by companies responsible for CSR projects, but in the case of companies, the major impact comes from actions related to their direct operations, precisely by assuming the reduction of their carbon footprint, "said Barbara Promberger , Executive Director of the Carpathia Conservation Foundation.

For its part, GreenTech, as a partner for offsetting unavoidable emissions, joins the move with the belief that it will play an important role in stimulating Romanian companies to take concrete measures to reduce emissions, for the benefit of all.
