The fragrance has been developed after a collaboration in the last two years between Coty, production partners and carbon recycling company LanzaTech. They have developed a high-purity sustainable ethanol made from recycled carbon, sourced and purified from industrial carbon emissions.

The technology has offered Coty a near-zero water alternative and reduced the need for agricultural land. Coty plans to integrate the sustainable ethanol into most of its portfolio by 2023. They are collaborating with brands such as Gucci, Burberry, Chloe and Hugo Boss. The production has started at its Spain manufacturing facility.

"This exciting step forward in Coty's sustainability journey demonstrates our ability to meet and exceed the ambitious clean and green roadmaps we have set for the future.", said Dr Shimei Fan, the Chief Scientist Officer of Coty.

The carbon-captured ethanol is sourced from waste carbon monoxide gases produced by heavy industries, such as oil refineries and steel factories. The move is part of a wider strategy from beauty major Coty to reduce carbon emissions by 30% by 2030.
