As per ESG Today, this fund will enable LanzaJet to scale its ethanol-to-SAF technology. LanzaJet was launched back in 2020 by the carbon recycling company LanzaTech to enable the production of SAF, as well as other sustainable fuels, such as renewable diesel from waste-based feedstocks.

Jimmy Samartzis, Chief Executive Officer of LanzaJet, said that "this important investment from Airbus supports the growth of our company, enabling LanzaJet to scale the production and deployment of SAF to continue working towards meeting aviation’s decarbonization goals and developing a more sustainable industry."

LanzaJet is currently in the process of starting-up the company's first commercial-scale facility for the production of ethanol-to-SAF, called LanzaJet Freedom Pines Fuels, which was built in Georgia, USA. As much as 38 million liters of SAF and renewable diesel could leave the facility every year.

Julie Kitcher, Chief Sustainability Officer at Airbus, added that "this important partnership with LanzaJet underlines the importance of new technologies and cross-sector collaboration to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050."
