Electrive writes that these are not the only advantages these batteries offer, as they are claimed to offer 8 years of lifetime expectancy or 1.2 million kilometers before needing to be replaced, while the charging speed is estimated at 70% in just 15 minutes.
The battery itself, called Tectrans, comes in two versions, either a long-lasting cell or a super-fast charging unit. The long-lasting battery, according to CATL officials, could last for up to 2.8 million kilometers or around 15 years. Aleksej Krükov, Chief Engineer of CATL Overseas Business, said that "this product boasts an impressive driving range of up to 500 kilometers, coupled with a battery warranty that spans the entire service life of the vehicle."
The fast-charging-focused battery, which comes in sizes between 200 and 600 kWh, will offer charging speeds that allow top-ups of 70% in 15 minutes, without sacrificing on the durability. Thus, this version is still expected to last for up to 1.2 million kilometers between services.
The more durable version of the battery is also compatible with CATL's battery-swapping system for trucks, called Qiji Energy, to compensate for the somewhat slower charging speeds.
Any thoughts?
