Electrive reports that by integrating the software technologies from Breathe Battery into its upcoming EVs, Volvo could enable faster charging times without sacrificing safety or durability. Volvo engineers suggest that a 10 to 80% charge cycle could be improved by as much as 30%, using the software of the London-based battery expert.

The solution, Volvo explains, "will last across the full battery life cycle without impacting its health status. Unlike traditional stepped charging which relies on pre-determined rules, Breathe’s software uses adaptive charging to dynamically control the battery in real-time, resulting in significantly shorter charging times."

Following the undisclosed investment made by the Swedish carmaker, Breathe secured its first commercial customer in the automotive industry to use this technology.

"While reducing charging times for our cars, the technology achieves this without the need to change battery pack design or mine extra materials, without additional environmental impacts. Also, since it is fully compatible with the hardware used in our new generation fully electric cars, scaling will be easy as we expect our electric sales to increase significantly in coming years", Volvo added.
