Battery-campers can be the solution to long recreational trips with EVs

Going on long trips with an electric vehicle can prove to be a challenging task, due to range anxiety. This is especially true if you plan to go on a multi-day camping trip, but one company might have found a way for you to enjoy a break in the woods without fearing that you'll run out of juice.

According to Green Car Reports, Colorado Teardrops, a camper maker based in the US, announced that it finished the development of the "world's first camper trailer designed to extend the towing range of electric vehicles."

The 3.6 meters-long trailer carries a 75kWh battery pack, which is essentially like having an additional battery pack connected to your own EV, which in turn should compensate for the weight of the trailer itself.

Colorado Teardrop officials stated that, with the development of the prototype done, the company "has partnered with a major automotive manufacturer to advance technology directly relevant to The Boulder."

The 884 kilograms trailer can house four people inside, including the beds and a dining area, with climate controls available for optimal temperature.

A hot-water shower is also available and even a kitchen area, with potentially an induction-based cooktop.

The company will prepare two future models, as well, in the form of the 5.1 meters-long Golden and the 8.2 meters-long Denver, which have more room inside them and pack in battery packs of up to 200kWh.

These campers will extend upwards once parked and will go into a lower-profile state when on the road, for better handling and aerodynamics.

Colorado Teardrops is already taking orders for The Boulder, with this style of camper costing upwards of 45.000 USD and it should be delivered in the first half of 2023.
