Siemens and Volta Trucks to collaborate for a cleaner cargo transport

Siemens Smart Infrastructure and Volta Trucks have agreed to collaborate in order to help fleet operators electrify their vehicles. The two companies are looking to bring the vehicles, the charging infrastructure and the energy management solutions to those who need it.

According to Electrive, Siemens officials say that "the offering will be designed to require minimal upfront investment or technical knowledge."

Swedish truck maker Volta Trucks recently started the production of its 16-ton heavy commercial vehicle, with a 7.5 and 12-ton variants coming soon.

Essa Al-Saleh, CEO of Volta Trucks, said that "I am delighted that Volta Trucks will be working with Siemens to bring industry-leading charging infrastructure solutions for our Truck as Service customers."

Siemens will take care of the charging and software infrastructure that will be necessary to power Volta's cargo electric trucks.

Thomas Kiessling, Chief Technology Officer of Siemens Smart Infrastructure, added that "through our partnership with Volta Trucks, we intend to co-create Transportation as a Service solutions, and deliver Volta Trucks’ customers higher uptime."

Volta Trucks officials hope to be delivering over 27.000 trucks yearly by 2025, as DB Schenker is already an important customer for the truck maker, as the logistics company ordered 1.470 electric trucks in 2021.
