New in-wheel drive system made by Lightyear and Elaphe, nearly 100% efficiency

Solar EV company Lightyear and Elaphe, a firm developing electric power drives, have created what they claim to be the most efficient electric drive system for EVs, which is an in-wheel model and has an efficiency of 97%.

Lightyear officials say that "we’ve achieved an efficiency of 97% from the in-wheel motors, losing just a fraction of energy through heat."

According to Charged EVs, the in-wheel transmission is a variant of Elaphe's proprietary electromagnetic layout and it is currently in the final testing stages, nearing approval.

Lightyear plans to implement the system made in Slovenia in its future Lightyear One solar-powered EV.

With the help of the new drive system and other technologies, the carmaker claims that the new family car was able to reach "the greatest efficiency and lowest consumption rates of any electric vehicle on the market today."

Lightyear recently announced the Lightyear 0 solar-powered EV, which could hit the streets as soon as this November.
