France to invest 300 million euros per year for a sustainable aviation sector

ESG Today reports that the French President also stated that the country has the capacity to produce 500.000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) every year.

The Civil Aeronautics Research Council will benefit from the yearly 300 million euros financing in order to develop technologies that will allow the decarbonization of aviation, such as more efficient engines and aircraft.

Also, French officials recently passed a law that implies banning domestic flights on routes that can be done by railway in less than 2 and a half hours.

Macron also mentioned 200 million euros more funding that should go towards the development of electric and hydrogen-powered planes and another 200 million towards scaling up SAF-production capacity.

The BioTJet refinery will be one SAF-production project that will benefit from the financing, as company officials announced it could generate as much as 110.000 tons of low-carbon fuels per year.
