ChargePoint boosts Mercedes-Benz's charging with new 500kW power stations

Charging station operator ChargePoint recently announced the large-scale deployment of the latest and fastest charging technology developed by the company for EVs. Company officials claim that it could offer 500kW of charging speeds and Mercedes-Benz is said to be the first customer that will benefit from this service.

As per Electrive, back in January, a ChargePoint spokesperson said that 400 charging stations with a total of around 2.500 charging points will be available. Supporting the Power Link 2.0 technology, the stations will offer maximum charging speeds of up to 500kW to two EVs at the same time.

Company officials said that this is faster than what EVs can support as far as charging speeds are concerned, but the system has been developed to be used by "both current and future EVs".

The Power Block technology is also able to dynamically adjust the charging speed, according to how fast each EV is able to fill up the batteries.

Also using a form of liquid-cooling for the cables, charging speeds can be sustained for longer. With Mercedes being ChargePoint's first customer, the charging operator has yet to announce additional EV makers that could collaborate with it.
