World's first treaty aimed at protection oceans biodiversity, adopted by the UN
After signing the world's first seas treaty back in March, the UN now finally adopted the law that is meant to protect the biodiversity and environments in the world's seas and oceans.
As per Reuters, the new law has "pumped new life and hope to give the ocean a fighting chance."
Starting September 20th this year, the agreement will be available for countries to sign, with the law being enforced once 60 countries will ink it.
The High Seas Treaty is part of UN's efforts to put 30% of the planet's seas and terrestrial territories under protection by 2030, to prevent the loss of habitats and biodiversity.
