Nissan to sell only BEVs in Europe by 2030. All upcoming models will be electric

Japanese carmaker Nissan recently announced that all of the vehicles it will be launching in Europe from now on will be battery-electric only, as it aims to achieve 100% EV sales on the continent by 2030.

As per ESG Today, the announcement follows Nissan' 2021 commitment to invest 36 billion USD over five years in order to build the innovative technology for its upcoming EV lineup.

Makoto Uchida, Nissan President and CEO, said that "EVs powered by renewables are key to us achieving carbon neutrality, which is central to our Ambition 2030 vision. Nissan will make the switch to full electric by 2030 in Europe – we believe it is the right thing to do for our business, our customers and for the planet."

With its EV-only target by 2030, Nissan would be five years ahead of EU's own objective for clean, electrified personal transport. By fiscal year 2028, Nissan also plans to offer EVs packing all-solid-state batteries, which should allow the company to reduce the price for each battery pack to 75 USD per kWh.

Also, to lower production costs for EV cells, Nissan engineers will work on developing cobalt-free batteries by the same fiscal year, further reducing costs by 65%.
