Food waste-based chemicals can be the future of sustainable food production

Chemical company LyondellBasell recently announced that it has launched a new range of low-carbon chemicals produced using recycled and renewable feedstock that manufacturers can use for more sustainable products, ensuring they reach their environmental goals.

ESG Today reports that LyondellBasell is one of the world's largest polymers manufacturers and the company's products are being used for making insulation materials and consumer goods, but also for the automotive industry.

The low-carbon range of products is made from recycled and renewable feedstock and are designed under an International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS methodology.

Kimberly Foley, executive vice president, Intermediate & Derivatives and Refining, said that "these low-carbon solutions will use renewable, bio-based and recycled feedstocks that empower our customers to reduce their Scope 3 GHG emissions."

Low-carbon product solutions are already available in Europe and the Americas and there are plans to expand their availability in Asia at the beginning of 2024.
