BMW switches MINI plant to fully-electric production with 750 mn. USD

Officials at BMW Group recently announced that they will be investing 750 million USD to convert a MINI manufacturing plant in the UK to a fully-electric production starting 2030.

ESG Today writes that the 1913-established Oxford Plant is the oldest and also the largest MINI plants in Britain. From 2026, two all-electric MINIs will be manufactured here and the exclusive production of battery-powered cars is expected to begin in 2030.

BMW's investment follows the company's 2021 commitment to reduce the emissions per vehicle by 40% before the next decade, while also ensuring that half of the company's sales will represent EVs by the same date.

Company officials earlier this year stated that the second goal could be achieved earlier than 2030. BMW representatives also added that the British government actively supported the Bavarian company's initiative, which will also support the creation of new jobs in the area.
